The female form carries a timeless narrative of strength, vulnerability, and resilience—central themes in my work. Through sculpture, I explore identity, empowerment, and connection, inviting viewers into a more intimate engagement with these ideas.
I earned my BFA in Sculpture from the University of Washington in 2003, focusing on metal casting, with part of my studies completed in Rome. Artists like Giacometti deeply influenced me, showing that art does not need to chase perfection or realism to convey profound meaning. My travels across Europe grew an enduring fascination with ancient cultures and the inevitable collaboration that occurs between classical sculpture and nature. In 2009, I transitioned primarily to clay, drawn to its tactile nature and vast possibilities for expressing movement and form.
My childhood was complicated and often confusing. By the time I was nine, my family had moved nine times before settling in Edmonds, WA. Growing up across the varied landscapes of the Pacific Northwest, I developed a deep appreciation for the natural world—its intricate details and easy beauty. I grew comfortable with solitude, spending hours observing ant hills and ladybug habitats, breathing in the fresh air, and finding solace in the wild. Although I had little exposure to galleries or the broader art world until college, my environment nurtured my creativity and a hands-on approach to making. I was the only girl among four siblings, raised within the framework of Catholicism.
The summer after sixth grade, I witnessed my father fall from a ladder onto the concrete at our church—an accident that caused permanent injury and marked the first in a series of events that would destabilize and quickly separate my family. These experiences left a deep psychic wound I was ill-equipped to process, and for decades after I struggled with alcohol and a fractured sense of self. Still, I knew I wouldn't let these struggles define or permanently break me.
Off to college I ran! As a freshman, I made the second novice boat on the UW crew team—a sport I had never attempted before—making my dear ol' dad proud, himself a former UW National Champion in football. Still burning to overcome internal hurdles, I took a few years off from college, moving between Colorado and San Diego before spending several weeks traveling solo across the country in my gutted baby blue Astro van, desperate to find clarity. I found myself in Joshua Tree just days after 9/11, where it was soundless except for a tortoise crawling and the bees visiting a cut on my leg—it felt familiar to be breathing there in a time of mayhem. Eventually, I returned to pursue art. In 2003, while studying in Rome, I found the courage to step away from Catholicism and embrace a spirituality that felt true to me.
I co-founded the Twilight Artist Collective in 2005—first at Pike Place Market, then later in Seattle’s West Seattle neighborhood—where we supported hundreds of emerging artists until 2012. Twilight prepared me for my next meaningful endeavor. Since 2014, I have stewarded the Georgetown Trailer Park Mall, “Purveyors of the Rare and Sublime,” fostering a vibrant, accessible creative community. Here, I also run an art gallery out of a 1951 Spartan Royal Mansion travel trailer, showcasing the work of 35 local artists.
In 2015, I founded Pugmill Society, a ceramic collective at Equinox Studios, where I continue to create among a thriving, radical community of makers.
Art is both my rebellion and my redemption, my way of continually mending back together the fractured parts of myself.
Currently, you can see my work at Domicile, The Royal Mansion Gallery and at Pugmill Society.
